Service FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions on CDJR Service
Living in Liberty County means your vehicle is more than just a ride, but your lifeline. Whether you’re hauling a trailer down I-69 with your Ram 1500 or navigating the school drop-off line in a Grand Cherokee, keeping your engine humming is priority number one.
At Cook CDJR, we get plenty of questions at our service center, so to save you some time (and maybe a little stress), we've gathered the "Top 10" things Cleveland drivers ask us most.
1. "How Often Does my Jeep Actually Need an Oil Change?"
The old "3,000-mile" rule is mostly a thing of the past. Thanks to the high-quality synthetic oils we use today, most CDJR vehicles can go 5,000 to 7,500 miles between changes. However, if you're doing a lot of heavy towing or idling in Texas heat, you might want to stick to the shorter end of that window.
2. "Can I Just Swing by, or Do I Need an Appointment?"
We love a plan, but we know life happens, and our Mopar® Express Lane is designed for the busy driver. No appointment is needed for quick fixes like oil changes, tire rotations, or battery tests. For bigger repairs or diagnostics, scheduling an appointment ahead of time ensure we have a lift ready for you.
3. "My 'Check Engine' Light is on... How Worried Should I Be?"
Think of it as your car clearing its throat to get your attention. It could be a loose gas cap or a sensor misfiring, but don't ignore it! Small sensors are cheap to fix, but a melted catalytic converter is not, so make sure to see us for a quick scan.
4. "Are OEM Parts Really Better than the Cheap Ones Online?"
In a word: Yes. We use genuine Mopar® parts because they were engineered by the same people who built your car, fitting perfectly, lasting longer, and — most importantly — not voiding your warranty. You can order the parts you need from our parts department with ease.
5. "Why are My Brakes Making that High-Pitched Squeal?"
That's actually a safety feature, as most brake pads have a tiny metal "wear indicator" that screeches when the pad gets thin. It’s how you know to replace your pads before the brakes start grinding on the much more expensive rotors.
6. "Is This Repair Covered by My Warranty?"
If you’re within the 3-year/36,000-mile basic window or the 5-year/60,000-mile powertrain window, there’s a good chance your warranty covers it. Give us your VIN and we can look up your exact coverage in seconds.
7. "How Do I Know if I Need New Tires?"
Try the Penny Test, which involves sticking a penny into your tire tread with Lincoln’s head facing down. If you can see the top of his hair, your tread is too thin for those rainy East Texas afternoons and you should come see us for a fresh set.
8. "I Heard There’s a Recall on my Ram. What Do I Owe You?"
If the manufacturer issues a safety recall, the repair is on the house. We’ll get the new parts ordered and the work done at no cost to you.
9. "Do You Offer a Way for Me to Get Back to Work?"
We sure do, thanks to our local shuttle service to keep your day moving while we work on your vehicle. No need to hang out in the lobby all day (though our coffee is pretty good).
10. "How Often Should I Rotate My Tires?"
A good rule of thumb is every time you get your oil changed. Rotating them every 6,000 miles or so helps them wear evenly, which saves you hundreds of dollars by delaying your next full set of tires.
